Jet Li's got a new movie coming out May 13 called Unleashed.

I haven't even heard about it before yesterday and I'm sad that I haven't. I've always liked Jet Li's films especially since Jackie Chan stopped (Thank God! No more movies like The Tuxedo and The Medallion!!). Jet Li brings a new spin on the martial art movies with his usage of rap/urban music. Unleashed is no exception.
Here's a music video/trailer for the movie.

Here's another trailer.
From what I've gathered, Jet Li plays a man who was raised by a gangster to be a violent killer. One day, he escapes and is taken in by a blind man(Morgan Freeman) and a woman who help him to reclaim his life and find his individuality. The gangster comes back looking for his 'dog' and Jet Li has to fight (perhaps to keep his new family safe?).
Waycos's summary is better, read that.

I'm a sucker for Jet Li movies so I'll probably watch it with my friends. As it looks interesting, I suggest others look into it as well.

IMDB's recap of the plot:

This is the story of Danny(Li), a slave who has lived his whole life without any sort of normal human education, with the mind and personality of a young child, with only one lesson learned: how to fight. Treated like a dog by his owner/boss, Bart(Hoskins) which includes having to wear a collar, Danny has been raised to be a lethal fighting machine who fights in illegal gladiator-style fight clubs, where he earns lots of money for Bart as the undisputed champion. After a car accident that lands Bart in a coma, however, Danny meets a kind elderly blind piano tuner(Freeman) on the run because he knows secrets some bad guys don't want known, who uses music to teach Danny some things about the world and about being human...

Hey, in Jackie Chan's defense those are shitty American movies he's done, and has since sworn off them to do Hong Kong flicks again. The new Police Story looks pretty damn sweet, and came on DVD recently.

I'm looking forward to Unleashed, if just for the new score by Massive Attack and the RZA.

Jackie Chan would own Jet Li!

Check out Fist of Legend. Stupid story but amazing fight scenes. Some of the best ever.

Everyone should watch Once Upon a Time in China. It is one of the most awesome martial arts flicks of all time. The sequels get a bit more insane with the wire-fu but are still pretty darned good. Any martial artist they have to ask to slow down because the camera can't catch all of his strikes is an ok martial artist by me.

Yeah, saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago... looks amazing.

The recent releases of a wave of over-dramatized, over-wired martial arts movies from various asian countries has made me wary of them in general. I kind of want to go see this one anyways. It doesn't as rediculously pretensious as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Hero were, and looks like it might have believable fight scenes.

I totally want to see this. Kung-fu, plus a plot that looks (gasp!) pretty decent, plus Jet Li, who is totally a beefcake. I'll be there on opening day with my friend Andrew, he loves these kinda movies. he was practically creaming himself for Ong-Bak, I'm sure this won't be much different.

As for Jet vs. Chan, I prefer Lee (Bruce) myself. Return of the Dragon was excellent.

Everyone prefers Lee.

Everyone prefers Lee. I'm pumped for this summer, I'm taking up Jeet Kune Do with a friend.

I just saw Unleashed last night.

and I thought it would be good, because i love martial arts movies, but goddamn. And I don't want to sound like a cliche' and be like "I laughed, I cried..blahblah" but it's true.

And i could sum up the summary for you but it's already been said. and I don't want to ruin anything.

But this was one of the best movies i've seen in a long ass time. Not only did it have awesome fight scenes, but the plot was really moving. And i'm not kidding when I say I almost cried. one of the girls i went with did end up crying, and my boyfriend left the theater feeling depressed, but not in that "omg i wanna die" sort of way. the movie was just so sad and so wonderful at the same time. You really feel for Danny. I mean, you follow him from his progression from a "dog" to a human being.

It was really odd seeing Jet Li in one of these roles, and maybe it was just me, but I usually picture him in those fighting movies that don't really have much of a plot, and just focus on his asskicking skills.

And I was suprised to find that he was a really good actor. He played the role of Danny amazingly.

okay, i'm so done talking about this, just go see it! it's so totally worth the ten bucks. Hell, i'd pay to see it again, and I do know that i'm buying it when it comes out on dvd.

Good to see that you actually enjoyed it OF. I personally would give it a 6/10. IMO the movie was an attempt to mix sentimental movies like Ray with action movies like The One. A combination that didn't go well.

POSSIBLE spoiler below
For someone looking for pure martial arts, it was a dissappointment as half the movie revolved around Jet Li learning to play piano and everyday chores.
For someone looking for sentimental movies (or music orientated movies), it was a dissappointment b/c half of it revolved around Jet Li doing martial arts.

I agree that storyline was one of its kind but IMO it could have been hell lot better if they had tweaked it a bit with less initial fights and more fights in the middle. (Maybe have Lee's GF kidnapped and make him fight for her?)

You're right, that would have been an awesome, original twist to the story!

She wasn't his girlfriend! She became like his sister. it was about how he found family, and yeah, he would have fought for her, but because family's important, not because she was spreading her legs for him -.-;

though, I would cuz he's hoit XD

That was sarcasm. I hope to god you all caught that. Ugh.

Good movie though.
Kickingyourpets
I didn't catch it so much as I was beat over the head with it.
