For AICN's review...

This is a bit late, but oh well. I'm sure you've heard of the movie Sahara starring Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, and Penolope Cruz. It's earned some good reviews and has done pretty well. I have to say, when it first came out, I was skeptical. Nicholas Cage's National Treasure had come out a little while ago, and frankly, that movie was unbelievable in the worst possible way. Come on, a treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence? Excuse me while I throw my disbelief out the window.

Anyways, back to Sahara. It's actually a based on a book written by Clive Cussler (Anybody who's read it, please give your opinion on the movie). Dirk Pitt (McConaughey) is a fortune teller who's a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond. He is searching for a Civil War era battleship which is supposed to have a large treasure on it. His right hand man, Al Giordino (Zahn), and him meet a very sexy scientist (Cruz) who is searching for a cure to some virus. (I'm a little hazy on the details).

I've heard the reviews, I've seen the numbers. I think I'll definitely see it. I was hesitant because of National Treasure to see another treasure hunting film, but Sahara seems to be of a different mold.

So who's seen it? What are your thoughts? PLEASE MARK SPOILERS AND WRITE [ SPOILER]------[/SPOILER] IF YOU WRITE THEM.

I've seen it, and i've also read all of Cussler's novels. And I have to say I was impressed considering the disaster hollywood did of his other novel "Raise the Titanic" which they play homage to in the opening credits.

As usuall, they didn't include everything in the book and changed a few details, which is typical of hollywood, but they did it credit (hell, even some of cusslers plot twists are a bit unbelieveable, even by hollywood standards).

If you've enjoied the movie, then check out the books, mixture between, bond, indiana jones, and underwater archeology. the 1st one in the timeline is Pacific Vortex (although its the 4th one written) and go from there.

As an avid fan of the book series, I must say I was afraid when I heard this movie come out...more so when it looked like they had replaced Al Giordino, the large italian sidekick of the series, with a thin scrawny comic-relief type guy. I ended up seeing the movie under excruciating circumstances (Wasn't let in to Sin City because the theater decided to enforce a NC-17 rule on the R-rated movie,) and you know what? I liked it, a lot in fact. As someone who had read the book, I noticed how true it kept to the story; just about everything was the same, with the exception of the characters- and they worked dang near perfectly. Matthew McConaughey and Steve Zahn played the action-duo very well, and the acting was actually pretty good, better than the crap you see in most book-to-movie adaptations. Those who haven't read the series will find the plot a little too far-fetched, but not as much as the plot of National Treasure. Action scenes were suprisingly almost realistic, no bursting through doors with a single pistol, sliding across the room knocking down twenty guards armed with machine guns; in fact the "good guys" actually miss every now and then, possible a first for these action-adventure flicks. Overall, worth a weekend matinee ticket, and definitely should be at least checked out on DVD.

I thought it was awesome. Entertaining, Zahn was hilarious.

Granted, I also loved National Treasure.

I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie at all...in fact I was kind of dragged to it.

Came out of the theatre and loved it. For many reasons actually. I enjoyed the story, Penelope Cruz, the action, Penelope Cruz, the comic relief, Penelope Cruz, you know...the list goes on and on. It was a good movie, and very enjoyable.

And...if you were slow enough not to notice, Penelope Cruz is absolutely STUNNING. I'd hit that consequence free.
