That's right, all you Firefly fans your moment has arrived. Joss Whedon has taken his hit show
firefly after Fox absolutely fucked it, and made it into a big screen movie
Serenity The trailer is up here: (
http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/ )
The movie is set a few months after the final epiosde "Objects in Space" from the series. The plot follows the crew of Serenity as they untangle the history of River Tam, a girl that was smuggled on board their ship in the series by her Brother. The Alliance had been performing experiments on River in secret which left her mind...altered, and the Alliance wants her back badly. The Reavers are also featured heavily in the film which will be interesting to see if they are as vicious as the series lead you to believe.
Thoughts?

I'm looking foward to it. Then I've been raving about the show when it was on TV. I've been trying to drum up some support of it in hopes that it will do well and we'll get another movie.

That looks awesome...
But will I be left out if I've never seen the show?

There will be a 3 comic book series from Dark Horse which bridges the show to the movie, I'm sure if you caught that everything would make sense. I think if you've seen Outlaw Star this series will seen very familure. I'm a big fan of the series, a friend if mine is actually working for the company that will be doing the internet marketing. There trying to talk the company into reairing the series on the Sci-Fi channel. We'll see if that gets to happen and you can just see it there.

I don't think it wouldn't be too hard to follow what's going on. I would think they would kind of bring the audience up to speed with the history of the universe and the plot, etc etc.
I'm interested if they still do the whole "speak Chinese" thing, or if there will be subtitles for it. It was a nice twist and I would like a bit more depth into the universe and its history.

I'm in the same boat TMFT, I've actually been meaning to check out the series, but I just haven't got around to it. Although I guess now I have a timeline to do so if the movie holds true to its September release. Will it be a waste of a rental fee anyone?

You won't be disappointed by watching the series. Its fairly innovative. You also won't miss anything (overall plotwise) by going to the movie and not have seen the show. the trailer pretty much tells you the basics.

Other than a little back story on each character you won't be missing very much. It is, however, very much worth the rental if you can get a hold of the whole season.

I am full of so many warm gooey feelings over this. In my world, Whed on is a minor deity, so I cannot wait for this.

Here's the movie's website. Josh apparently sends messages to the members twice a week.
EnjoyAlso, there's already a 3 picture deal, so if this takes off expect 2 more.

big, BIG, BIG fan of the series...
*owns the series on dvd* <- includes 3 episodes that never aired on tv (damn fox!)
very enjoyable and I was extremely upset with fox's handling of the series.
I have also heard that there exists a 3-picture deal (but obviously if the first one is a dud or isn't seen by many folks, they'll likely not shoot the others).

There's a non spoiler review of the movie. the guys says that he never saw the series and after watching the film he claims that he always wondered what it would be like being the first to see Star Wars and now he knows what that feels like.

I just finished watching the complete
Firefly series and it is truly one of the best shows I have watched in a while. It's really too bad Fox cancelled it...but then Fox cancelled
Family Guy, so they obviously know what they're doing

... Anyway, I am really looking forward to this film. I've heard great things from people who have seen advanced screenings of rough cuts. Greg Dean of
Real Life wrote up a little thing about his experience--don't worry no spoilers.
So, as I said this movie will kick some serious ass.

I've always been big into Scifi shows, and this had the potential to be one of the best ever. I only wish that it had gotten more than one season. Another network should pick it up. If I had trillions of dollars I'd get one. But, uh, yeah, I'm real excited about the movie.
This is one of those things - Don't warez it. Buy the DVD. It's worth it, and it's cheap - only $30, whereas most shows have seasons that sell for over 3x that. Plus the DVD comes with some episodes that weren't aired, and an awesome set of Special Features including interviews.
Hopefully if it can score enough purchases, and money from the movie, Fox will consider doing something about it, like Family Guy. Tis a nice thing to hope.

Not to mention the easter egg of Jayne Cobb singing "Hero of Canton." Hilarious.

Fantastic DVD set, in all. The only thing I would've liked is, I've got the full outtakes reel, but the extras section only uses about a 1/4 of it, and some of the other stuff is frickin' hilarious.

Fox also cancelled Alien Nation and Brimstone, so Firefly was just salt in the wound...

FOX owns the Sci-Fi channel. They should have moved it to there. Such a shame it just ended. FOX never gave it a good time slot or stuck with the time slot. Didn't really have a chance to catch on.
