Article here.

Who's ever seen the show, Dukes of Hazzard? It might be before the time of many of the LICD'ers. I'm sure you've heard about it, but yes. Jessica Simpson is starring in this movie adaptation of Dukes of Hazzard.
I checked out the cast list and frankly, it looks like the movie's supposed to be a huge joke. They've got Johnny Knoxville, Sean William Scott (Stifler), Burt Reynolds, Willie Nelson, and Jessica Simpson lined up for the cast. Like I said, a huge joke.

If I do see this, there's a 99% chance that I will be trashed. Perhaps then I'll enjoy it.

For anyone who has seen the TV show, was it a joke? I know the Batman series was supposed to be a parody. Was Dukes of Hazzard the same way or did it actually provide serious drama?

The show wasn't a drama, it was serious with jokes. Like the Mayor and sherriff were a big joke. All I really remember is the car jumping, pausing in mid air, looking like a collision, when they were going to a commercial.

We used to watch that show every week, as faithfully as A-Team. IMO, it was made to be tongue-in-cheek, but took itself seriously enough that it wasn't like the new slapstick, over-the-top pseudo-funny "Anchorman"/"Dodgeball" type flicks. Also, the story-line was similar, but varied only slightly week-to-week. Always a chase of some sort, always "boys" getting staying on the line between legal and crooks, and the law being the most crooked of the bunch.

I used to watch this show faithfully each week as well. Was a big show back in it's time. It's now on VH1 or CMT or something like that playing pretty much non-stop. Definitly not nearly what it used to be.

It was sorta a drama/comedy. Kind of a TV spin off of Smokey and the Bandit if ya ever saw those old Burt Renolds movies.

This movie adaptation looks like it's gonna be a waste of film.

Unfortunately, I agree. Seems like when an era gets pseudo popular, the money-milkers go way-overboard and end up almost ruining the original experience. At LOTR didn't do that. Spidey either. Maybe Transformers won't... but I'm off topic...
Also, if they try to turn A-Team into a movie...that's it...I'm throwing in the "they have any creative brains or business sense" towel.

You know, people, you could look for more independant and artsy films if you actually want creativity. This seems to only pop up when someone realises something they like is being rehashed and shit out. It happens every day. Every remake makes someone feel the way you feel about the Dukes of Hazard movie.

Hollywood isn't about creativity, it's about getting your money. Look outside it if you're expecting something more.
