So, I just saw The incredibles this weekend. I have to say, it was pretty damned Incredible (that was corny). I'm glad Blockbuster's got that no late fees thing because I kept it for a week and watched it several times. It was incredibly funny, well made, and had good action. I've always respected Pixar. The movies they've made have been quality films. I particularly like how although, it is a family oriented movie, there were still subtle things that older audiences could enjoy. It warmed my heart to see the Parr family working together, taking on crime.
I am definitely going to buy the DVD. The special features were jam packed and almost as entertaining as the movie.
Anyone else's thoughts?

Yep, it's amazing. I've probably seen it 6 or 7 times now. The animator's commentary is the most depressing thing on earth though. Hide the razor blades if you watch that one. "I spent 4 years of my life animating 1 minute of screen time."

Holy shit, I know exactly what you're saying. I admire Pixar all the more though, because so much effort goes into their movies.

Great movie. I've entered a competition where I can win the DVD, but if I don't win, I'll go buy it. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over without getting bored of it.

What's amazing that with all the work required to make each frame, etc. that the characters persoalities come so clearly across. Despite the intense effort required to animate everything, it is still full of heart and a great comedy as well. Pixar moveis r0x0rz.

I saw the Incredibles only a couple of days ago and was actually really impressed with it. I say 'actually' because it was the first Pixar film I'd really enjoyed. Most of the others left me with a huge feeling of time being wasted, but for some reason, The Incredibles really struck a chord with me, the second half was just brilliant, and I was really sorry when it finished. Took me by surprise because I wasn't expecting to like it. Great film.

There is not comparison. Completely different genres, just using the same medium.

You're right. The second half was definitely my favorite part. The first half worried me. Bob and Helen were pretty angry at each other.

Without a doubt, it's a movie made for kids. However, it was also obviously made for the people like me who grew up reading superhero comic books. It took me back (and that's a very good thing).

Absolutely awesome flick, and arguably the best by Pixar yet.

Tomorrow I go to buy it on DVD.
Yipee!
I've waited since it came out to go and see it because those kind of films are just not the same when dubbed into spanish. And if I have the DVD I can let others here use it too.

I thought the movie was pretty cool, but the part that I loveed most was on the second disc when you get to see what happens to the baby sitter. I laughed so hard I nearly shat myself. JACK JACK ATTACK! I would recommend renting it just to see that part

Best Pixar movie I've ever seen. Hell, best animated movie I've ever seen. It was a kids movie yes, but somehow it was definitely enjoyable for those of all ages. I'm not exactly sure why I liked it...it was just one of those movies you know? A feel good movie when after you're done watching it, you're just like...hmm...like the kid on the bike. "THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!"

It was a kid's movie.. and it wasn't. How many kids understand a wife thinking her husband is cheating on her? Stuff like that made me think it was the superhero movie most of us have wanted forever, not just another kiddy pixar flick.
I'm sure most of the movie can be appreciated by a kid, but there are no jokes that are overtly kiddy. No farts, no "silly" stupid characters. A lot of the humor comes from slightly exaggerated mediocrity in day to day life.

Rented this movie this weekend.. wished I would have just bought it.
What a great movie! My wife always grumbles just a little bit when I bring home an animation cause she prefers 'real people'

Well she just loved this movie. WINN4R!
I bought the DVD and I'm glad I did. I even bought a Dash T-shirt while I was away.

Recently bought the movie and Its in the top ten of all time. It was wicked. Words are failing me to describe how enjoyable it is.
As for the compariosn to Shark Tale (which I recently rented) It is much better IMHO but they are 2 different classes. I didn't enjoy Shark Tale nearly as much. With The Incredibles, there was always something going on to keep me focused on the story and concerned for the characters. Not so with Shark Tale unfortunately.

Any word on a sequal yet? yea I know it was just released but MAN whudda good movie
hellonurse
Apr 5 2005, 01:36 PM
Only two things:
(1) Disney is apparently eyeing sequals on ALL Pixar films that were created jointly, as Disney owns the rights to them. This would include Toy Story 3, Monsters 2, Cars 2, Incredibles 2, Nemo 2, etc.
(2) Brad Bird, director of both this movie, and the excellent but underappreciated "Iron Giant", has mentioned that he'd be willing to do an Incredibles 2, as he still has some things that he'd like to try with the superhero/normal family idea.
So, nothing definitively in the rumor mill, just that no one is ruling it out, except maybe Pixar.
Aku Cola
Apr 5 2005, 02:13 PM
Pixar and Disney might be getting a better relationship, possibly even to the extent of doing some of their bigger sequals - The Incredibles at least. Disney recently got a new president, and the last one was a dick. The new one seems to be bringing some decent change.

Apr 5 2005, 02:53 PM
Right up there in the several hundreds of millions. The DVD's are selling like hotcakes too. One measure I use (minus BOXOFFICEMOJO.com), is looking at the number of months in the theaters. It's still doing well enough to have the DVD out, and still be showing in the "dollar" theater here in town. And that's 6 months after release! Yeah, it did well here in the USA.
Comparison with other Pixars:
Better than TS1 or 2, not as good as Nemo, but in league with Monsters, from what I recall a couple of months ago.

I think that the movie was really made for people of all ages. Notice how pretty much everyone in all age brackets likes this movie?
My little cousin enjoys (he's 4), my little brother enjoys it (he's 14), I enjoy it (I'm 18), my older cousin enjoys it (he's 25), my parents enjoy it, and my grandmother enjoys it. That's a pretty generation spanning audience there. And it's impressive that Pixar pulled off a movie that really appeals to all of us in one way or another.
I'd say that the film is definitely MAINLY aimed at families, but it goes beyond that too. You always market a film to something specific though, because that's just how it has to be done.

Kat, IMO, I don't think a comparison with NEMO is fair, since they're almost different genre. Sure, both animated 3D cartoons, but different directors, themes, settings, characters, story-arcs. My family liked Nemo, but doesn't watch it often. They have enjoyed Incredibles so much that they watch it everyother day. They did the same with Monsters. Maybe it's more comparible with the other (Mon & TS2). Dunno.
Also, with the other thread-related conversation, our target audience (3,5,7,9,11,31,35), thought it was purchase-worthy (at $20!).

I just bought it, but when it was in theatres, I spent a lot of time getting stared at by little kids as I was usually the only adult in the theatre. Who never stopped laughing.
I wanted to be an animator for years, so I've always admired Pixar and the badly needed breath of fresh air they brought to Disney. I'm incredibly excited to see what they do without Disney collars on them.

Do you think that Pixar is going it without Disney, or that Disney looked at Pixars upcoming slate and didn't want in for more?
