Yeah, I know, it's not really new news, but an actor has been cast for the villain.

Thomas Haden Church Tapped to Fight Spidey.

Sadly, the villain hasn't been revealed to us. However, based on his look, and things Raimi has said, I'm leaning towards Venom or Electro. Although, I would absolutely love to see Shocker in, if only for a minor part.
Arthur Dent
It's Venom. The friend from Sideways is playing 'im.
Useless Trivia Man
I think Church would do a fantastic Electro. He's just got the right look for it. I'm having a hard time picturing him as Venom though.
YardGnome
I'm with Useless. As much as I want to see the almighty fight between Spider-Man and Venom, I can't see Church playing Venom. If you remember, Eddy Brock was young and mucsular, and Church... is not.

Yeah, even without Venom, Brock was a tank. Having Church doesn't completely rule out venom though, in theory that they do multiple baddies.
Arthur Dent
I'm pretty this one is supposed to have multiple bad guys. I want Fisk. Of they had to make Daredevil and ruin everything cool about Fisk.
Yorick
lol, don't be such a rascist. wink.gif

I thought Daredevil did Fisk okay, up until the point where he and Daredevil fought, just because it was lame.

And I wouldn't be surprised if they did multiples, they have a lot of options, including Harry Osbourne, and Curt Conners, since they were both introduced in the other films.
Toomuchfreetime
I read that Church could play Eddie Brock/Venom or Electro. Of the two, I'd prefer the former.

They could always go the way of Harry Osbourne/Green Goblin 2, or Curt Connors/The Lizard, or one of many excellent Spidey-Baddies.

...Of course none of them matter if it's gonna be FUCKIN' VENOM!! God, I would LOVE to see Spidey and Venom duke it out, live-action on the big screen. Jesus, bring in ALL the symbiotes: Carnage, Toxin... I would shoot a load in my pants if it's the symbiotes in movie three. ::crosses fingers::

They won't do Green Goblin 2, at least not as the main enemy, Raimi has mentioned that before. I think it would be cool to see The Lizard, but again, not as the main enemy. I think it would be really cool to see Venom take over Spidey, have Spidey own some bitches, like Lizard or Shocker or even Goblin 2, and then realize that Venom is evil, and forsake it, and then have it take over Eddie, and have that big fight. They can fit that into 2 hours. Rawr.

If you ask me, symbiote Spiderman was the shit! Too bad the alien turned to be evil and fuck with his judgment. He was almost unstoppable as symbiote Spiderman.

Almost? Fuck, he WAS unstoppable.

If I were him I would've kept the symbiote. It was bad-ass. He could change forms, disguise himself; it could become clothes for him; the costume was cooler; it was enhancing all of his powers... Man. Bad-ass.
b00
Yeah, but he almost ended up abusing his powers. His relationships became strained, he was constantly angry, and he almost killed someone. But yeah, shit, he was the fucking RAWK.
Waycos
Except it was vulnerable to sound.. so anyone with a power of sound like Banshee or Siren would whipe the floor with him.
Aku Cola
Venom will not be in Spider-Man 3.

Director Sam Raimi doesn't like the character.

And Church wouldn't play Eddie Brock anyway, Eddie was shown briefly in the first movie, and played by R.C. Everbeck

If we get multiple villains I can't really imagine The Lizard being left out, as Dr. Connors has been in both previous flicks.

Church To Play Venom in 'Spider-Man 3'?    Sideways star Thomas Haden Church's villainous alter-ego in the new Spider-Man movie has been revealed, if internet gossip is to be believed. The Oscar nominee will play Venom in Spider-Man 3 in 2007, according to the Pressconnects.Com website. Venom won't be the only Spider-Man arch-enemy in the second sequel - Daniel Gillies' John Jameson character will become Manwolf in the film, according to the reports.

It isn't.
Arthur Dent
Hahahaha. Fair, but IMDb has never led me astray.
Aku Cola
Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. While I am pretty sure it won't be happening, I'd pretty much shit my pants with joy nuggets if this movie actaully was about Venom.
Yorick
I would also shit Aku Cola's pants with joy nuggets.

I concur - with Raimi at the reigns, it couldn't help but be the greatest action film of all time.
I would want Bruce Campbell to play Carnage though, and take a step up from simply shemping his cameo roles - the guy has those "psychotic laugh" and "fucked up expression" things down to an artform.

That, and Carnage would just obliterate everything in his path, which would mean that Campbell would be the only actor left for the NEXT sequel... tongue.gif
Yorick
Oh man, Bruce Campbell as Carnage would just about make my life.
Aku Cola
As much as I love Bruce and as many bad movies I've sat through to watch him cheese through them.. I would hate seeing him do Carnage. He just.. doesn't fit.

Bruce Campbell as Mysterio though, that's gold right there.
Arthur Dent
I'm sorry. Mysterio is the lamest villain ever. Ooooo, you cast holograms. Excuse me while I don't care.
Gibbon
Gotta agree on that one. I'm hoping for Venom or bust. But I'm pretty sure their just sticking with the Green Goblin plot.

Venom may be in the movie but may not be a major character. They might just through him in as an extra. Possibly setting up the 4rth movie. We've seen in all these Marvel comic movies how they try to through in cameo's of characters.
Toomuchfreetime
...Wonder how Stan Lee is gonna cameo in this one. He was "man in street" in the first one, he was "yelling man" in the second... My money's on "dog-walking man" in #3.

He's the only villain Campbell is suited for playing. There were lamer villains in Spiderman, sadly. If Mysterio were done right, he'd be pretty cool. Like Scarecrow in the new batman, just fuck with his head, then damage the guy physically.
Arthur Dent
No, Scarecrow is lame, too. Though you can do more with him than ol' fishbowl.
Puncture
Hey why don't we bring Spiderman 2099 in while we're at it!!!? .... ahem. blush2.gif

Aku Cola
Right.. well, I'd take fucking Mysterio over who's going to be in it.

Multiple spies at Sony have confirmed that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing SANDMAN.

From Ain't it Cool News. For what it's worth.
Toomuchfreetime
OH. GOD. NO. I was hoping it wouldn't be him.

Not Sandman. NOT FUCKING SANDMAN.

...This guy is THE single lamest character. He's made of fucking SAND. He can change shapes. Whoop-de-frickin'-hoo. Mysterio is WAY cooler.

...If it's Sandman, I will be very angry. (I'll still see the movie; I can't not see it).
Aku Cola

TREMBLE IN FEAR AS I MILDLY IRRITATE YOUR ASSCRACK, SPIDER-MAN!
Toomuchfreetime
NO! MY ORIFICES!! UGH, IT'S EVERYWHERE! EVEN MY SHOES!
caffeineavatar
Venom could make any Marvel movie better, although they would be much shorter.
Imagine Daredevil fighting Venom. 5 minutes of fight, chewing noises, roll credits, the end.
Aku Cola
There are a lot of problems with getting Venom on the big screen. Apart from the director not liking the character, these flicks are going to stay PG-13 to rake in the cash, and Venom is a fucking violent character. Also just getting him to look even decent would be a CG nightmare.

Bah, I just want the next one to not suck at this point. Goddamn Sandman.

You didn't think Doc Oc was violent? He was crushing people's heads. As long as you don't show it you're fine.
Aku Cola
Doc Ock was violent, and that surgery scene reminded me so much of Evil Dead I almost wept, but there's no comparison.

Sandman RAWK!
Gibbon
Venom would make Spiderman 3 perfect, I've been hanging out for him since movie 1. Sandman would kill any movie. Sandman is the only character I can imagine making the Daredevil movie worse.
caffeineavatar
I think I know how Sandman will be killed. It rains. He gets all clumped. He gets his ass kicked, roll credits.

Give me Venom or give me death.
(Although both could easily happen)
javaprophet
There have even been some floated rumors about the possibility of a female villain--or at least a new female character to set up a villain for later movies. Could we even see an apeerance by the Black Cat??

Well, even if she did appear, they'd probably do something like have Halle Berry play her in leather--that or Alicia Silverstone. Ugh...
Toomuchfreetime
Black Cat would be cool. Felicia Hardy is a fox. Mreorw.

Or Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. Zing!

I goddamn hate Kirsten Dunst
Gibbon
I hated her up until about an hour ago when I read a quote by her. It was something to the effect of "If I were stuck on a desert island I'd want my cat, it's adorable. It could keep me entertained, plus I could eat it." That quote gave me new respect for Kirsten Dunst.
Arthur Dent
Mmm, cat. What? Did I say that?

Agreed.. don't hate KD but come on! KD does not exemplify the h4wtn3ss that is Mary Jane sad.gif
Useless Trivia Man
Kirsten could peel back my mask and lay one on me anyday... cool.gif

I don't think Sandman is a particularly lame villain, but I don't really think he's badass enough to carry an entire movie. Now, if they were to introduce something like the Sinister Syndicate with Sandman as one of the members... THAT would be well worth the price of admission.
Katiz
So far, the Spiderman franchise has been very good to its villains. They all have had good depth and are easy enough to sympathize with. It'd be nice to see a female villain treated in the same manner, for once. I can think of very few female antagonists that didn't just come down to "slut" or "bitch."
Yorick
Old topic revive (Sorreh!) for new news. This is a pretty big spoiler I just heard about, so if you don't want to ruin the movie, don't read it. If you don't mind, check it out.

SPOILER! (Highlight to Read!)

QUOTE(Highlight to read)
Tropher Grace and Thomas Hayden Church are the two villains for Spider-Man. What was just revealed is that they're BOTH playing the Chameleon, and there will be a big scene where you find out that they're both the same person
