Great movie!!!

Usually the action packed movies don't have a good storyline but this one had kick ass storyline AND was full of action.

If you liked Assault on Precinct 13, than you will love this one!

I saw it over spring break and had mixed reactions. I went into it expecting crazy-ass Bruce Willis ownage where he goes into each scene with an assault rifle and blasts away. Instead we get a washed-up negotiator mad.gif .

The premise was good, but although the movie was supposed to be serious, I laughed throughout a lot of the movie. Every time that "creepy" kidnapper was on screen I would be cracking up, and when he was tying the girl (who had ENORMOUS boobs blink.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif ) to the bed (and the scenes after that when he was stabbed in the mouth but still chasing them), I just lost it - I was rocking with laughter. Not good for a movie that's supposed to be very dramatic. But I guess it was enjoyable.

Oh, and the little boy had the highest status in the whole movie. He kicked major ass - I wish he had killed the creepy guy in that one scene, that would've ruled so hard.

There was another hostage this movie didn't show. He was held for two hours in constant shock. Now, he is dealing with the emotional trauma of watching Bruce Willis's terrible career go down in flames. That hostage was me.

The hell? I thought it was an excellent movie. Bruce did some spectacular acting. Some of the plot was far-fetched but overall it was good. Mars was creepy as hell, and the whole thing was very intense and emotional.

It was only partially an action movie.

And how is Bruce's career terrible? He's been in some damn good movies.

Wow. Go home.

I didn't like the movie, but no way is Bruce Willis' career terrible. Movies like Pulp Fiction and Die Hard come to mind...

Saying Bruce Willis's career is good because of the Die Hard movies is like saying Arnold Schwarzenegger's career is good because of the Terminator movies. And in case any of you are confused, by career I mean skill and/or acting talent. Mr. Willis has none.

Wouldn't agree with that, I quite liked him in The Fifth Element...

I have to disagree too. I found him very believable in movies like the 6th sense and Unbreakable. I thought he did a very good job in Breakfast of Champions, and 12 Monkeys. He was funny in movies like Hudson Hawk (even though it was bad) and Bandits. And he does alot of voice work (look who's talking, narrator in North, and video games). We all know he does good action flics, Die Hard, Last Boy Scout. And Moonlighting was a good show. Looks like talent to me.

Measuring someone's career success and their talent, sadly, are very different things. I like Bruce Willis. He's got decent range, and with the right script he can pull off a lot.

I haven't seen Hostage yet, so I can't comment on anything involving that.
The Illusionist
I rather enjoyed Hostage, but in a "predictable and repetitive" kind of way.

Bruce plays a washed-up something-something forced out of retirement by circumstance, at which point it all comes back, he conquers his demons and saves the day. Nothing new there, I'm afraid.

Hostage, however, does it in a fairly entertaining way - the "shoot-out" at the end got the ol' blood pumping even if we DID know the outcome before they even entered the building, and the cast were, for the roles they had, acting quite well.

On the downside.... so much was added just for shock value rather than actual context or logic, in my opinion.
I mean, there's no sensible reason why Morrs had to be a necrophiliac (or as close as makes no difference at any rate) when quite frankly a normal teenager that was scared out of his mind might have done the same things, and in a more believable context.

That's Hollywood though, I'm afraid, so I guess I'll just have to lump it.

A fairly decent film with a few minor irritations and one or two "What the... why bother!?" moments, and I'd recommend it for a good, mindless night out of violence and seeing Bruce in his skivvies tongue.gif
