From Ain't It Cool News:
"Dreamworks after socking away a BILLION dollars of Shrek money has decided that not only get SHREK 3 in pre-production, but they've hired the writer to start cracking on SHREK 4... and they've also started writing on PUSS IN BOOTS their first SHREK spin-off!"
So that's 5 Shrek movies total. Presumably they'll all be out in two years, maybe three. Shrek 2 wasn't bad, but I'm not deeply in love with either of them.

I've actually seen bits from the scripts to these movies.
There's this one scene, where Shrek and the donkey stand around beating a dead horse. It sounds like a really compelling moment in movie history.

Yeah, I think 'pets has a point.
Sure, Shrek and Shrek 2 had moments that adults enjoyed, but they are kids' movies. Kids probably aren't going to remain loyal to the franchise for that long, and I don't think many adults will go alone to see them for the few bits they *might* enjoy.
Promising concept, but impractical if you want to make the same money from them as you have done before.

Not remain loyal for that long? How could you forget Star Wars. Not only will they remain loyal they'll get downright violent at the prospect that Donkey isn't as small or smelly as he used to be.

Actually, I'm a huge Shrek fan. They are amazing movies that all generations can enjoy. I'm not surprised at this at all.

I suppose I can be considered the midpoint between kid and adult here.
...I certainly would remain loyal. I'd watch each one opening day if I could. I loved both of the originals.

I loved the originals, but I think it's going kind of far. I have trouble believing the new ones will be as good as the first two.
Shrek 2 is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time. I'm not suprised by more sequels.

I liked 1&2 but I'm a bit worried they won't be able to keep up the quality for 2 or 3 more movies. Most longer running movie series lose it at some point.

I very much enjoyed both Shrek 1 and 2. They're feel good kind of movies you know? But I don't know...3 and 4? Let's just see where that goes.

Wasn't ET rereleased not too long ago? That certainly helps.

Yah, ET and Star Wars were helped by being re-released.

I loved both of them, but as Disney has proven (with Aladin 3 and Lion King 1.5) third movies frankly just suck.
Hell even the third American Pie movie wasnt as great as the first two.
When will they learn?

Eh, Disney kind of sucks in general. I have more faith in Dreamworks than Disney any day.
Making 2 sequals at once is a problem though, as Shrek 4 won't address any issues people have with Shrek 3, they'll be almost identical. The technology won't advance at all between the sequals. There were 3 years between the release of Shrek and Shrek 2, so the latter looked quite a bit better.
I already thought they were scraping the bottom of the barrel by Shrek 2 though, so meh. I doubt I'll see these sequals.

I agree, Aku. They definitely seemed to be fishing for laughs. There were so many cliches in number two that were supposed to be a joke, but just weren't funny because they've been DONE.

It doesn't matter if the same kids watch it or not.
When I was little, there was a movie out called The Land Before Time.
Now they've made so many sequels to that movie that they've run out of the dinosaur age and should be dealing with cavemen by now.
Seriously.
They aren't marketing that movie to me any more. Being 20, I don't want to watch it.
There will always be children to market movies to, and as long as you have characters that children can giggle at or associate with (or whatever) then they will have a saleable movie.
I enjoyed the first two, so we'll see how things go for the others.
And hey, worse comes to worse, you make friends with someone who works in a theatre or rental store. Get the movies for free. You're only losing a few hours of your lives, no big deal, right?

Goddamn. Yeah. And you're right too. I had the first one or two when I was younger. And when my brother started watching them he got a few more of the movies. They're up to like 12 of them or something ridiculous like that.
