Really looking forward to this one though i am not a comic-fan. But trailer looked amazing and great cast as well wink.gif

So what are your thoughts?

I totally can't wait to see it.
Aku Cola
Damn, I can't wait. The characters are so fucked up and interesting, and the stories are SO horribly sadistic. I'm fucking shocked it's being made and seemingly being the closest comic to movie adaptation ever. Throughout the movie pages of the comic are thrown on screen to show how they've exactly matched them.

While Marv's story is the main focus, the other two main characters are John Hartigan (where Jessica Alba's Nancy character really comes into play) and Dwight.

I can't recommend the comics enough, and I'm looking forward to the movie as the only thing I'm seeing that won't let me down.

Oh, and Elijah Wood being cast as the character Kevin.. dear lord is that fucked up.
Toomuchfreetime
Jessica Alba is t3h sex4y.

Why do I keep hearing about Elijah Wood's character? Wait, I don't wanna know. I'll find out when I see the movie.

...Can't wait. Maybe I should read some Sin City comics to prep?

I've got them on my wacky computer if anyone wants them sent in a few e-mails.

I would totally be down with that, I've read The Big Fat Kill and Family Values, but I haven't been able to find the other ones. If you've got A Dame to Kill For or Dirty Yellow Bastard, please let me know.

This movie is going to rule like crazy. Ya'll know that Rodriguez is allegedly getting kicked out of the Director's Guild for this one? A friend of mine told me it was because he was co-directing it with Frank Miller, and guild rules don't allow for co-directing. Bravo to Rodriguez for saying "fuck it," and deciding to make the movie right anyway. Everything about the trailer just screams "AWESOME."

Hey, Aku, could you send me some comics as well?

"I had to sit there and look at my leather costume, with the chaps," she said. "It was originally drawn without underwear and I decided I should probably wear underwear because my dad wouldn't like that very much."

Hey Alba, if you're afraid of what daddy thinks, don't agree to play a stripper! It's not like you have the most clean rep in Hollywood anyways.

Go Nem, that song would be 'Cells,' by the Servant. You can find it in your local p2p networks. barring that, I can e-mail you an mp3.
Yorick
uhm, okay, someone emailed me looking for the comics. So, for future reference, I'm not Aku. wink.gif And if the real Aku could go ahead and send them to this confused individual, it would be appreciated: t.bharatht.k@gmail.com

Not sure how long it's been out, but if you check the page (here) there's a second trailer out.

I saw there was already a Sin City thread... this one's gonna be for discussing thoughs on the movie.

My thoughts? Fucking great!

The movie was practically frame for frame, line for line. Nowhere near as much nudity as there shoulda been... buuut that's Hollywood for ya.

Great casting job. Great special effectorz. The parts were the movie went into comic book-style... with just the shadows... that was nice.

My favorite thing about it has to be Elijah Wood as Kevin. That was just too fuckin cool. Watchin him whip around and kickin ass... and his big creepy eyes worked well.

The whole theater laughed and "oooh-ed" in all the right parts.

Even my friend Melissa liked it... and she hates everything.

Go see it!
kae
I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the comics, because they were pretty much the same. There were a couple of things they left out that I wish they had put in. Some of the parts they kinda skipped around with, but meh. Still a great adaptation.

I think I would have enjoyed it better if I had some space. I don't care for crowded theaters, especially when I have the annoying talkative guy with funky breath next to me.
Aku Cola
Fuck yes.

I can't really organize my thoughts on it right now. I'd like to know what it was like for someone who hasn't read the comics, because this movie actually catered to the fanboys.

As a film I thought the pacing was odd in the opening, but smoothed out a while in, maybe half an hour. I was uneasy in the opening - not the very begining, that's just a cool little introductory short, but after the opening credits Michael Madsen's character (Bob) is hammed up so horribly. I was really afraid the rest of the movie would be played that way, but all the other actors seemed to get it and played things well.

I'd give it.. I don't know.. 9 out of 10. Really, really good. I want to see it again.
Toomuchfreetime
Gon' see it tonight. Let you know what I thought.

Saw it.

...There are no words in the English langauge for how amazing that was.

The acting, cinematography, directing... they were all excellent. I fell in love with EVERY SINGLE ONE of the characters. The good guys, bad guys, bit players... I connected with them all.

Elijah Wood as Kevin was sick. Intense. Amazing.

I loved this movie beyond words.
Arden
I enjoyed the movie a lot. Unfortunately I had to go see it in a college town, so all the idiot frat boys with no sense of art or...intelligence (movie wise anyways) were surrounding me. I swear to God the movie would have been a better experience than it was had I not had to listen to the unbelievably idiotic commentary. And the worst part was…they weren’t joking. Actual honest comments such as:
“I don’t get why the movie was in black and white.” From a guy with a Sig Ep cap.
“It’s funny because he played Lancelot,” from a guy I know from the D Chi house referring to Clive Owen’s comment about rushing in like Lancelot. And the angry glares at me and others when we laughed uproariously (with scattered applause and cheers) about Marv talking about roughing up some frat boy who tried to get fresh with Nancy.

*sigh*

Anyways, all that aside Sin City was possibly the best movie I have seen in months…until Kingdom of Heaven comes out anyways. The style of the movie was great and the slightly corny scenes worked very well for Sin City, when they would have failed and felt out of place in any other movie. Casting was superb. I’ve never seen actors actually look the parts of comic book/graphic novel characters that well in my life. Elijah Wood playing Kevin was amazing, and he did a great job. I’m glad to see him in a movie without a his face contorted in an expression of limitless fear. His eyes constantly wide and his mouth always slightly hanging open with a look of shock and terror…an expression that never leaves his face again - ever. You know…like [I]all three Lord of the Rings movies.[/B]

Bruce Willis’s character was my favorite by far as he was, in my opinion, the most developed, and not an incredible un-stoppable Plot Device, like Marv. He was very human.

And the internal dialogue and voice overs were the most well-written I’ve ever heard. Granted this isn’t due to the movie but rather to Frank Miller himself, but it is still worth pointing out. I would say this is a movie I would definitely purchase for DVD when it comes out.
Aku Cola
Man, everyone seems to be getting bad audiences for this flick, that's weird and disappoitning.

I've always liked Hartigan's story the most, it seems like we're with him the longest, and his purpose is the most noble. And wow was Nick Stahl creepy as hell.

A thing or two was left out that made me actually care about Marv in the comics, sadly, like his relationship with his Mom. Naming his gun is mentioned as a random joke, which was good, but I liked the backstory on it. And that he likes the rain because it helps him think.

The movie made me like Dwight a hell of a lot more than I did in the comics. I'm not sure why, either.

This movie will get far too much of my money.
Stanz
watched it last night. was really impressed with what I saw. the movie is by far the best that I have seen in awhile.

Toomuchfreetime
I had a bad audience too.

They laughed in the wrong places, which made me miss some of the dialogue.

People came out complaining that it was in black-and-white.

Idiots kept whistling every time you saw a nipple. Big fuckin' deal. Keep it in your pants, idiots, it's art and it's tasteful.

I hate audiences like that.

I enjoyed the movie nonetheless.
fullfrontalnerdity
The only reason I minded the nudity was because I was sitting next to my boyfriend at the time. Just your basic discomfort on that level. Otherwise I didn't mind. It was hot as well as stylized. There was nothing gratuitous about this movie at all.

I haven't read the books, though now I really want to. The only problem I had with the movie was just getting confused with the time frame. I mean, it was usually pretty simple to figure out when they had shifted backwards or forwards, just figuring out how far in either direction was hard. That was only a minimal problem.

I don't know if I'll go see it again. I would if I could find someone to go with me but pretty much all of my friends saw it with me on Friday and I don't know how many of them are into seeing movies more than once.

Edit: for some reason the desktop builder isn't working for me. sad.gif Could someone make me one with the city background and Jackie Boy in the front, no other elements? It would make me happy.
Aku Cola
I had a "meh" audience today. Some idiots behind us kept fucking talking, and not in any sort of whisper. One yelled OH BRUCE WILLIS IS STILL ALIVE. Bravo, genious.

The friends I went with that hadn't read the books liked it a lot. I was glad. One thinks the violence got to him because he honestly just wanted to go beat the shit out of the guys talking behind us.

And what size desktop would you like, nerdity-pie? I can't make it without a backdrop, sadly, so your choices are a city landscape, a .. room or wall or something, or the bar.
fullfrontalnerdity
Heh, nerdity-pie. I like that.

1024x768. City landscape is good. I mentioned that before, I just didn't want other elements like rain or whatever on top.

Thanks, Aku. You rock my socks.
Katiz
I really enjoyed it, but no need to repeat sentiments.

What got me is some guy brought his kids. They were no older than 10. I didn't notice them until I left. And I couldn't believe it. What kind of person brings their kids to a movie that's obviously gonna be violent?

Just ticks me off sometimes.

Oh, and the rest of the audience sucked too. Laughed too loud for an empty theater, and way too long to hear any lines afterwards.
Yorick
My audience was allright, and words can't express how much I loved the movie. My only complaint is that because it went story by story and didn't really interweve them aside from catching glimpses of characters, it made the movie feel like it was dragging at points.
Waycos
Loved it.
The mommy from spy kids was perfect as Lucille.... *drrroooll* ahem.. ok besides that point of pervitity... The movie was really good. I loved the styling to it and the narraration, which I know gets put down by a lot of people who feel it doesn't belong in movies, but so does in this one. It was just as good an adatation from the original as you're going to get. Can't wait for it to come out on DVD.
