Full Version: What Are You Gonna See in '05?
:: LEAST I COULD DO FORUM :: > The Interests > Movies

So, what movies are you planning to see this year, and why? Here's my list, in order of release date...

Elektra - Elektra follows the life of Elektra Natchios after her death in the film Daredevil. If not for Jennifer Garner in a red, leather bustier (she's not even that hot, like a 6 or 7), then I'll see it simply because it's a comic-book flick. (Those are big for me this year)

Assault on Precinct 13 - A remake of a 1973 John Carpenter flick in which a mobster and a cop team up to fight off a group of rogue police officers. Starring Ethan Hawke, Morpheus, and Drea de Matteo. Sounds like a popcorn-munchin' good time.

Hitch: The Cure for the Common Man - Will Smith stars in this comedy where he plays a smooth matchmaker who loses his cool over a girl. Sure, you've heard it before, but this looks good and you know it.

Constantine (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - Based off of underground comic series "Hellblazer," Keanu Reeves plays Jack Constantine, a man torn between Heaven and Hell. Sounds dark, looks awesome, and the teaser pretty much advertises it as a Matrix sequel.

Robots - From the same group that brought you Ice Age, this CGI comedy which stars Ewan McGregor, Robin Williams, and others tells of a robot trying to find his place in the world... or something.

A Sound of Thunder - Dinosaur hunting and time travel. Delicious. Based off a short story by Ray Bradbury. On a similar note, I want a Fahrenheit 451 movie.

Sin City (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - Frank Miller's "Sin City" jumps from the page to the screen in this film adaptation of the comic book. When a stripper he sleeps with is killed while lying in bed with him, Marv (Mickey Rourke) goes on a rampage to find the murderer.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith - A suburban couple finds out they are enemy assassins working for competing organizations. Sounds sexy.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - I sure as Hell am not about to froget my goddamned towel. I'm gonna see this motherfucker no matter WHAT the reviews are like.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenege of the Sith - Ditto. This movie's gonna be either REALLY good or REALLY bad. There's no middle ground here.

Batman Begins (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - I've never really loved Batman, but this story of his origins appeals to me. Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

War of the Worlds - An interesting adaptation of novel to film. Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise collaberate on this project. So far, only a teaser has come out.

Fantastic Four (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - Been waiting for this one for a while. Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, AND Julian McMahon? Plus, comic book movie. Seeing it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Tim Burton. Children's book that's fucked-up as is. Oompa Loompas. 'Nuff said.

Untitled Mike Judge Project - I liked "Office Space" and "Beavis and Butt-Head," so I'm willing to forgive him for "King of the Hill" and see this.

Doom - The video game is fun, and butchered though this may be, I wanna see it.

I have no idea. Unlike you I don't even know what's coming out. Often I don't know about movies until they come out in the Netherlands, which can be (but isn't always) months and months after they open in the US. I've even seen cases where in the US the DVD was out before we got the movie in the cinema.

Here are a few I wouldn't mind seeing:
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Star Wars Episode III: Revenege of the Sith
Batman Begins
Fantastic Four
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Chronicles of Narnia
Wedding Crashers
House of Flying Daggers
DrCBVI
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - I'll go see it, but depending on how it's going, I might get thrown out for sobbing wildly.

SW III - may as well.

Sin City - trailer looks excellent.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the Oompa Lumpas look, er, like kinky midgets with a latex fetish, but still.

I'm not sure which of three (yeah, three) versions of War of the Worlds I'll end up seeing. One is the Speilberg one, one I forget about, one is an independant company's work which is supposedly very close to the book. Er, but the trailer does not speak kindly.

Sin City is what I'm most looking forward too, along with the Hitchhiker's Guide.

I know Sin City will be goddamn awesome because the comics rock, Miller is co-directing, and the other director is motherfucking Robert Rodriguez. Elijah Wood's character kicks ass, too, that's such insane casting. There are actually 3 stories going on, and 3 main characters, Marv and two others - one being Bruce Willis', who's story might be my favorite.

I'll see Batman and Star Wars, hoping they are good. If Star Wars is dark I should enjoy it. I might see Constantine, I like the epic good vs. evil biblical type stuff. I have a few issues of the comic but .. if I read them I know I'll be pissed about how different they are.

Uh.. nothing else really comes to mind, I hope I find a lot of good smaller movies. Check out your local Landmark theater.

This weekend, actually, I want to see Woodsman, and sometime soon I hope they finally pick up Dig!, a documentary about the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. It'll be on DVD in April, so I'll probably have to wait for that.

Oh, don't be too sure about that. Sin City will knock your face clean off, it's going to kick that much ass. And I am hoping for some excellent things from Constantine as well, despite the presence of Keanu Reeves. And Hitchhiker's Guide? You're damn straight I'm gonna be there opening night.

This is one I didn't see on there, and it's not until the end of the year, but they're starting to do The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Anyone else think that is cool, or am I the only one? Just curious.

Assault on Precinct 13 - just because I like a good action flick
Alone in the Dark - I've yet to miss a video game movie, and I loved this game so I'm not missing this one
Cars - I have a 5 year old nephew I take to all the Pixar movies and he was drooling over this one when we went to see The Incredables, so...
Fury
Elektra - Seen it.

Assault on Precinct 13 - Will definitly see it. I have seen good reviews on this one and trialer looked pretty good.

Hitch: The Cure for the Common Man - Will probably wait for it to come out on dvd. But will see it.

Constantine (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - Not sure.

Robots - Wait on dvd.

Sin City (COMIC BOOK FLICK) - Isn't there a game on it too? I will probably wait for it to come out on dvd as well.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Definitly watching this one!!

Star Wars Episode III: Revenege of the Sith - Probably, may end up waiting for dvd.

Having seen about 30 seconds of Alone in the Dark and never actually playing through the games, I can already tell it's nothing like any of them.

Useless Trivia Man
Star Wars III: Not only yes. Not only hell yeah. HELL FUCK YEAH. I'm an old-school Star Wars fan, and I'm seriously looking forward to the grand finale.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: I'm praying that this movie can live up to the awesomeness that is The Guide. But even if it doesn't, I'll still be there watching on opening night.

Fantastic Four: One of the truly venerable giants of the Marvel universe, the FF has been neglected on the big screen til now. I just hope it's another Spiderman (and not another Hulk).

War of the Worlds: Dude. War of the Worlds, as done by Spielberg? What's that? Most expensive Hollywood movie ever?? Hell yeah. If nothing else, the special effects alone should be worth that much effort on my part.

Cars: Hell yeah. If for no other reason, it's got Larry the Cable Guy in it as a tow truck (appropriately).

I'm expecting iot to be more along the lines of the "new" Alone in the Dark game, not the classics I was playing on my 3DO. It still looks pretty good.
Yorick
Oh hey, can't forget about The new Mike Judge movie
pizaac
Yorik, awesome, totally didn't know about that!

The films I'll watch:
the new mike judge film

Assault on Precinct 13

star wars

hitchhiker

War of the worlds

The films I definitely wont:
Comic book genre films - horrible.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory- why mess with a good film, it looks too insane.
I will probably catch robots as a rental as well as War of the worlds.

UPDATE:

I missed Elektra. Heard I didn't miss much. Might rent the DVD.

Saw Assault (Good), Hitch (Good), and Constantine (Good).

Missed Robots.

Haven't heard a word about Sound of Thunder.

Saw Sin City (FANTASTIC).

Mr. And Mrs. Smith just came out, I think. I'll try and see that.

I'm seeing HHGttG on opening day.

No news for the rest yet.
Aku Cola
Sin City - Fuckin' rocked

Constantine - a lot better than I expected, but I'm a sucker for mythological angels and demons

Still waiting on everything else, but Hitchhiker's Guide is coming up on Friday. Friday INDEED.
MissPeachi
I'm waiting for
Constantine
Robots
Sin City
Mr and Mrs smith
Hitchhikers Guide
Fantastic Four
And Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire...

Unfortunatley I don't have a cinema so I'm pretty sure that HP4 won't be available on DVD until 2006...

---

I've wanted to see these 2 for ages. And I'm going to see the Guide tomorrow afternoon. We aren't getting Mr. and Mrs. Smith until early June ... or early July? I can't remember which.

I'm also looking forward to Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as a second Pirates of the Carribean.
