Sounds like spyware/adware to me. Grab a copy of spybot. It's free, and it should fix you right up.

Why is this in "The Locker Room"? Shouldn't it be moved to "Tech Etc"?

Agree with elf here - either spybot or Adaware (lavasoft.de)

Otherwise, try something like Hijack This ( be very sure what you are doing - thats a powerful piece of software and can ruin your PC)

run internet explorer in no extensions mode

from the run menu
iexplore -noext

then go to "tools" "Manage Add-Ons" and remove everything.
that's right, all extensions. get rid of them all.
you'll have to reinstall adobe acrobat and flash but there's precious few others that are necessary to a perfect browsing experience.
On the off-chance that there is, just reinstall them.
That should do it.

Me, I clean up the registry by hand Search for "internet explorer" then all in toolbars (not ie toolbars, you'll know when you see them), extensions, explorer bars, url search hooks, search scopes and a few others, low rights, etc.. You'll have to find all occurrences in the registry, they are doubled up but you should find 6 at least then two more for each extra user. Also from the HKLM-software-microsoft-windows-currentversion-explorer branch, remove all "browser helper objects" and "shell execute hooks"

Do it right and I guarantee you you will not have any pop ups appearing automatically (because they can't) dry.gif

Don't edit your registry unless you've made a backup and know how to restore it.

After cleaning all your IE cookies and cache, remove offline saved data and enter msconfig. Then try to go in boot and select "disable all".If u got a spyware and u can't remove it just disable it.Most of those software works in background. With a little skill and knowledge u can remove them from task manager and then disable form msconfig but, unless you doesn't know its filename i suggest to proceed this way.

Cheers.

It can also be form some software you installed.

It's not the most common, but some programs have these pop-ups, as part of the free-use clause.

I had that same situation when i used flashget some years back, for example.

Run a spyware remover, and if that does not work, i would advise you to check what is it you have installed in your machine.
