Simple premise, you see 2 movies you say what they were and a little about them. Don't need to do it everytime, just when you feel like contributing.
Chinatown - Young Jack Nicholson needs to be in every movie. I had just seen Reds a bit before this, the guy is flat out awesome. It's a shame he's becoming a charicature of himself, but his past work is classic.
Serpico - Surprisingly a biopic that doesn't suck, pander to convention, and actually has a story. Before Pacino became the "Hoooahhh!!!" guy. Another actor that needs to start trying again.

Lemme see, No Country for Old Men, and...No Country For Old Men
Watch it the first time for the strong cinematic work that it is, and the second time for the phenomenal script and dialog it contains. In particular, the final scenes with Tommy Lee Jones are by themselves worth a repeat viewing just to fully understand their meaning.

sin city and kill bill vol 1&2
I LOVE Sin City i think it has replaced Pulp Fiction as my favourite film of all time, amazing sound incredible looks and moving stories with a great cast, and jessica alba! I<3 it. I had never seen the first 20 min of kill bill 1 and none of vol 2 and i have to say 1 was better but 2 had a great story, i cant wait to finally see deathproof i hope its worth it.
sincity 2 and 3 in 2009 supposedly so WOOP

National Treasure 2: The legend of curly's gold, or something. Treasure hunting, fun for the family at the holidays I guess but not worth your time for the most part.
I Am Legend: Will Smith is an army scientist and the last man on earth, trying to discover a cure for zombie cancer. It ramps up quickly and the action is fun, however since Will Smith acts the same way in every movie he does they shouldnt try to put him in a role as a scientist. Not a thinker, but if you've got the time it's a fun watch.

Juno - One of the greatest movies I've seen in a long time. This movie has something for all ages and is one of the true comedies of 2007, like Superbad.
Shoot 'Em Up - Action action action. I wrote a quick
review here. Basically, the plot line was thrown in for kicks, this movie is a two hour long, badass, logic-defying, intense, fast-paced, clever, and insane gunfight.

Heh, yesterday we watched (I shit you not): Over the Hedge and 28 Weeks Later. How's that for eclectic? We got 'em both for Christmas; the wee one likes OtH, and we watched 28WL for the first time after we put the tyke to bed.
Superbad - Wicked funny, very quoteable.
Meet the Robinsons - An animated movie that was hilarious. I really enjoyed the humor and the ending was really nice. Sort of touching.

I am Legend - Great film for guys, really recommend it, cinematography at its finest, very good acting, and reasonable plot, with great tension all the way through. Poor Mr Smith, he saved the world rom aliens in Independence Day and now this.
Kung Pow - erm, yeah. Odd movie. Very very silly humour. It's one of my favourite comedies, but if you don't like slapstick comedy or OTT silly comedies then avoid like the plague.

Resident Evil: Extinction- Wasn't horrible and I'll likely pick it up when it drops in price a bit. Although it did raise two important questions for me:
1) Why is it, in ever zombie movie the guy that gets bit doesn't tell anyone? I mean, honestly?
2) Since in all post-apocaliptic (spelled incorrectly, but I'm too tired to keep trying to figure it out tonight) movies when someone dies they bury them with a cross made of two pieces of wood lashed together....what would they do if somebody died who was Jewish?
The Simpson's Movie- The gf loved it, I was rather under-whelmed with the whole thing. Some funny moments, but they were too far in-between for me to really love it. That and the whole thing had such a "we know you've already spent the money so we're going to mock you the entire time and give you a sub-par movie at the same time" feel to it.

Because he doesn't want to be shot in the face once people know he's a threat.

The Princess Bride (1987) - Watches this yesterday for the first time, and wow, extremely cuteish, fun and quatable fantasy movie. It was basically INCONCIEVABLE!

Death Sentence - Odd drama-action mix, that was actually quite good, but a bit too simple. It's basically about Kevin Bacon on revenge for his sons death.

The last legion
Found it to be a very interesting mix between King Arthur and Lord of the Rings. Especially when Merlin/Gandalf leads Ceasar/Frodo and the gang though the mountains.
This movie is so standard it blew my mind. Men takes:
1 Strong guy
1 Flashy guy
1 Female
1 Leader
1 Expendable guy
1 Wise guy
Et voila, the perfect and o so overused party.
Then offcourse, the strange yet mysterious villain. Oh my, HE WEARS A MASK!
Yeah.
What the bleep do we know.
I didn't know Disney made movies about quantum physics.
That's all I'm going to say.

I don't think that word means what you think it means

...
I saw:
Howl's Moving Castle: again, Myazaki shows he's unlike any other animation director in the world. Still, slightly disappointing after Spirited Away, but then again the story is so very different that they're hard to compare.
Re-seen:
Willow. God I love that movie. Playful, light fantasy with some great performances and wonderful imagery. The fact that this film can still stand besides current day fantasy flicks even though it's from 1988 proves that no amount of CGI will ever make a good film.

*sigh* yes, cause that's EXACTLY what I meant.
What I meant was that cramming a LIVE ACTION FILM (so NO ANIMATION) full of CGI will never make it good. What I meant was that directors forgot to think of other ways to solve action sequences in their films than using CGI for everything. What I meant was that real people, real sets and real action will (for me) always look more convincing and enthralling than CGI ones. What I meant was that old, 'outdated' movies like Willow can still immerse people just as good (imho better even) in a story than recent fantasy films that try to outdo each other in 'biggest CGI battlefield with a gazillion CGI orcs and monsters and... ever'.
I study animation, for crying out loud. CGI is NOT the same as 3D-animation.

Jet Li's
Fearless, and I'm really glad I did because it's a very good film. Choreography aside (excellent stunts and martial arts scenes are pretty much a given when Mr.Li is involved) it was entertaining, moving and even a little bit educational.
It's very weird in places however, particularly when British people appear in the film. They look and sound British, but speak in broken English/Mandarin and are subtitled in English

It's done well and it's effective, but still quite an odd experience...
And before that there was
Drunken Master, the 1978 classic of Hong Kong cinema

It's amazing how little Jackie Chan has changed in the last 30 years, thought seeing 1970's American fashion sense in a supposedly Chinese setting is another odd bit of cinema

Pretty much a Kung-Fu weekend for me, since before these two I saw
Ong Bak as well...

I haven't seen this in a long time but I remember hearing somewhere that it's almost funny to watch it now for the way they portray people who play hold'em as like a fringe niche thing of outlaws or something. I dunno, I thought that was funny.
Last two I watched were Superbad just because, and the Simpsons Movie. The Simpsons Movie I'd never seen before, but I liked it. I laughed enough, and for the Simpsons, that's all I'm really asking for. Though the animation felt a little too clean, I'd probably have preferred if it looked more like the show in terms of animation quality.

A Scanner Darkly- Seriously had no idea what this movie was about, but I was somewhat impressed, the animation got a little annoying at times, but I think it was better with than without.

The Groomsmen - Edward Burns repeats alot of the themes he's previously explored, but this is definitely his strongest film yet. Great performances by all, including a very surprisingly good Matthew Lillard, but John Leguizamo makes it an Oscar calibre role.
The Battle of Shaker Heights - I love these kinds of movies. Largely slice of life with a smart script and talented actors.

and since i don't watch movies all that often, the second latest movie I've watched is..

I saw the Host and Stealth.
The Host was pretty good. Follows a 5 member family (father, daughter, sister, brother, grandfather) as a monster living along a river attacks people. Doesn't take itself to seriously so there are some very funny parts to it. Ending leaves a bit to be desired but again it doesn't take itself to seriously so I think they were just having fun.
Stealth - I've seen Macross Plus which I figured this movie was based on. and it was only Stealth was far far FAR worse. Even Jessica Biel wasn't enough to save it.

Over the weekend I finally watched:
Phantom of the Opera - I hadn't ever seen this until we sat down with it on Saturday night. I've heard all the hype about how it's the Greatest Musical Evar from many sources, but for me it was kinda... meh. Don't get me wrong - I love a good musical (Y'know how I know
you're gay??) - but it just didn't wow me like I rather expected it to. I can see why some would really be captivated by the story (I probably would have been if I'd seen it years ago), but Mrs UTM and I both thought it was a little too slow-paced. I'm not saying I won't ever watch it again though; I'm hoping it'll grow on me.
300 - I saw it in the theater on opening weekend, loved it, and finally got around to purchasing the DVD. I watched it last night while puttering around in my Basement Retreat, and loved it again on the small screen. When it was over, I wanted to go out and kill a small-ish animal with my teeth... Thankfully, reason prevailed.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I'd let this one slip by for far too long and finally got around to seeing it. Brilliant. Crazy concept, excellent surreal depiction of dreams / memories, and at the same time one of the most realistic depictions of relationships. I could watch this movie regularly.
Breach - I was really surprised how much I loved this. I don't know why, but when it first came out I wrote it off as one of those lame suspense movies without an ounce of intelligence. This was really enjoyable, and that last image of Cooper's character was haunting.
Sweeney Todd - Loved the dark cinematics, Depp's acting was stellar, nice moving story, it was however a bit obvious that some of the actors are not used to doing musicals which was a minor smudge on a good movie.
Bee Movie - I love animated movies, and while this was on the silly side, it still brought on quite a few laughs. Although I must say Disney won this years "animals that can talk to humans" joust with Ratatuille

You've Got Mail- romantic comedy about two bookstore owners (one for a big-bad-corperate store, one a little family store) and email correspondence in NYC, an old favorite of mine.
Lucky Number Slevin- interesting movie about revenge, bookies, and general plotting. One man 'mistaken' as another gets into running favors to pay off 'his' debt with rival bosses. not sure how else to describe it other than it monologues a lot, but its still a good movie!

The Lake House - Girlfriend picked this one. I hate Keanu Reeves but I do like Sandra Bullock. In the end, I kind of liked the whole communication with someone in the futured, and especially how they would recognize a moment as it was happening and then allowed it (like the dog running away). I had the little catch figured out 15 minutes into the movie, but I did enjoy a good laugh when my girlfriend was crying at the end. All in all, it was a decent movie if your g-f insists on seeing something romantic.
